The Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science is an Associated Laboratory with thirty years of experience in I&D Technology Transference. The institution was created to provide an interface between academic world and business world of industries and services, as well as public administration in the field of Technology, Telecommunication and Electronic Information. INESC TEC is comprised of twenty-one I&D Centers, distributed in Porto, Braga and Vila Real cities and also, by one Associated Unit with complementary skills focused on the international market. Among more than 800 workers (researchers and PhD students), INESC TEC has a strong scientific and technological development in Portugal, with a considerable international presence. Its actuation focuses on: Scientific Research and Technological Development; Advanced Consulting and Training; Technology Transfer and Release of New Companies based in Technology. The main strategic goals are:

• Perform production of science and technologies, able to compete at a national and international level;
• Participate in the training of scientific and technical quality human resources, motivated to believe in national skills and the country’s modernization;
• Contribute to the evolution of educational, scientific and technological system, adjusting to social and economic needs;
• Promote and facilitate business initiatives making it possible to value their I&D activities and encourage initiative spirit among their youngest researchers;
• Contribute, based on these aims, to the construction of a modern Portugal, with a solid economic and a quality society.
